One of our favorite events is back this year!! Staunton Pride will be hosting a group camping and outdoors activity weekend on June 9-11th, at Sherando Lake Recreation Area. Folks can choose to camp one or two nights -- all in a safe, inclusive, and affirming environment.

About the Event
Sherando Lake Recreation Area's Family Campground provides an ideal camping destination. It is situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains and visitors can enjoy hiking, picnicking in the shade, fishing in the lakes, or swimming and relaxing on the sandy beach. Sherando Lake map

Staunton Pride will be hosting a group camping and outdoors activity weekend on June 9-11th. Folks can choose to camp one or two nights -- all in a safe, inclusive, and affirming environment. Camping begins on Friday, June 9th, 4pm and goes until Sunday, June 11th at 11am.Â
Set up camp with the group in our group campsite and spend the days exploring the area, hiking, swimming, playing games, or just relaxing with great company. Â Fireside cooking, chats, and s'mores are a must!
Interested but don't have the right gear or transportation? Reach out to us directly or let us know in the registration and we'll help you out! Scholarships also available to help with ticket cost.Â
Tickets for 1- or 2-night camping are available! Tickets are sold per person and are on sale until June 2nd. No tickets required for children 12 and under, but please let us know in your registration how many for the overall headcount.
Proceeds go towards Staunton Pride festival costs and supporting the Shenandoah LGBTQ Center.

What are the campsite amenities?
The group camp is located at the upper end of the Sherando Lake Recreation Area near the 7 acre upper lake. The group campsites are located around the outer portion of the loop with a large grass field on the interior of the loop for activities and games. The open grassy field provides an excellent opportunity for night time star gazing.Â
A bathhouse with flush toilets and showers is located at the upper end of the loop and a vault toilet is located at the lower end of the loop. Â Staunton Pride has reserved 2 out of the 5 total group campsites.
Our 2 sites have plenty of picnic and prep tables, 4 campfire rings with metal grates for cooking, 2 large BBQ grills, and 2 faucets with drinking water.

What should I bring?
All the comforts you'll need for tent camping! tent, sleeping bag, other essentials including firewood, cooler and food for the weekend. Let us know if you need help planning and we'll send along a helpful checklist  and make sure you're ready for the weekend. There are local stores only a 15 minute drive away so don't worry if you forget anything.
What if I don't have a sleeping bag or other gear?
Reach out to us and let us know in your registration form. We want to make camping accessible to all (because it's not, let's be honest) and we'll pull together our network to help you find some gear for the weekend.
Is there strong cell reception or WIFI?
I'm so glad you asked! Nope. Not even a little bit. Please plan ahead for this -- but we promise you'll enjoy being unplugged for a bit!
